EXXIT
CIT Crawford College of Art and Design Degree show 2012
The work explores the psychological impact of the interior. The notion of interior is a reference to the psychological versus the physical; the space of the mind and its relationship to the space of the interior. Other than providing shelter the interior can create a physical construct that mirrors our need to psychologically and physically define immediate space in relation to our body. Distorting these spaces can emphasise the distortions of the mind.
I am drawn to liminal and threshold spaces such as doorways, stairs and corridors for their sense of transition and movement or expectation of what might be beyond these unsettling non-places.
Often times these themes are combined into installations that feature found objects and projections combined with constructed forms. The color black establishes an absorptive quality, suggesting notions of authority and unease, and formally unifies the disparate objects in each installation and print.
